Where your food is actually from.
Terms of Use
Last updated 29 August 2026
Read this part if you read nothing else. Fíor cannot tell you that a food is safe for you, and it never tries to. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, always read the label on the pack itself before eating anything. The pack is the legal source of truth. Fíor is not.
What Fíor is
Fíor is an information tool. It reads a barcode, looks the product up in the Open Food Facts database, and shows you what that record says about where the food is from, how it scores nutritionally, and how its marketing wording compares with Irish and EU rules. Every verdict shows the evidence it was built from.
The limits of the data
Fíor does not produce the underlying data and cannot vouch for it. Open Food Facts is filled in by volunteers. That means:
- A record may be incomplete — an ingredient or allergen present in the food may simply not have been entered.
- A record may be out of date. Manufacturers change recipes without changing the barcode, so a correct record can become wrong without anything visibly happening.
- A record may be wrong.
This is why Fíor is built never to clear a product. It will tell you an allergen is declared, or that it is not declared in the record it holds, or that it cannot check because it holds no ingredients at all. It will never tell you a food is free from anything, and you should not treat the absence of a warning as one.
Not medical or professional advice
Fíor is not a medical device and does not provide medical, dietary or professional advice. Health scores are calculated from published figures using public methods (Nutri-Score, NOVA) and are a general guide, not an assessment of what is right for you. Decisions about your diet, and especially about managing an allergy or a medical condition, should be made with a qualified healthcare professional.
Origin information
Origin verdicts are drawn from health marks, egg stamps, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine's register of approved establishments, and the product record. Where these disagree or are missing, Fíor says so rather than choosing. An establishment number identifies the plant that last handled or packed the food, which is not always where its ingredients were grown or reared, and Fíor labels that distinction rather than glossing it.
Acceptable use
Fíor is free to use for personal, non-commercial purposes. Please do not attempt to disrupt the service, scrape it at volume, or use it in a way that places an unreasonable load on Open Food Facts, which is a non-profit resource shared by everyone.
No warranty, and limits of liability
Fíor is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any loss or harm arising from reliance on information shown in the app.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer under Irish or EU law.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top of this page changes with them. Continuing to use Fíor after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland.
